Becoming a new parent is a life-altering experience—but for many women, it comes with emotional struggles that go beyond the “baby blues.” Understanding the symptoms of postpartum depression (PPD) is the first step in getting the help you deserve.

What Is Postpartum Depression? PPD is a mood disorder that can affect women after childbirth. Unlike the baby blues, which fade within two weeks, PPD can last for months and requires treatment.

Common Symptoms Include:

  • Persistent sadness or hopelessness

  • Irritability or anger

  • Trouble bonding with your baby

  • Severe fatigue or insomnia

  • Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby

When to Seek Help If symptoms last longer than two weeks or interfere with your ability to function, seek help immediately. Talk to your OBGYN, primary care doctor, or a licensed mental health professional who specializes in maternal mental health.

You’re Not Alone One in seven women experiences postpartum depression. Treatment—whether therapy, medication, or support groups—can help you recover and feel like yourself again.
