Wellness Wednesday: You Don’t Have to Be Everything to Everyone

It’s Wednesday, and if you’re already feeling stretched thin, you’re not alone.
Midweek often brings a pressure point, the demands of work, family, relationships, and responsibilities start to weigh heavier. For many of us, especially those in caregiving roles or from communities where survival has always been the priority, it’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to be everything for everyone.
But here’s the truth:
You are allowed to put yourself first.
You are allowed to not have it all together.
You are allowed to choose rest over running.
At For Us Therapeutics, we remind our clients, especially Black and Brown folks, LGBTQIA+ folks, and others who carry multiple identities that your worth is not tied to your productivity or how much you do for others. Being kind and generous does not mean sacrificing your own peace.
Midweek Check-In: Ask Yourself
Take a moment to pause and ask:
Am I running on autopilot or checking in with myself?
Have I said “yes” to something I didn’t really have the capacity for?
What do I need today, not just what others need from me?
Even small shifts-saying no, asking for help, taking a walk, turning your phone off for 20 minutes, can be acts of self-preservation and resistance.
You Don’t Have to Carry It All
So often, we confuse strength with silence. We think if we can carry it without falling apart, we should. But that mindset wears down our nervous systems, our spirits, and our ability to experience joy.
You are not weak for being tired.
You are not selfish for needing time alone.
You are not failing for asking for help.
Boundaries, breaks, and breathing room are not luxuries—they’re part of your mental health hygiene. Just like brushing your teeth or eating a meal, protecting your peace is necessary.
Let This Be Your Midweek Reset
This Wednesday, choose something that brings you back to yourself:
Unplug for an hour and listen to music that feeds your spirit
Journal about what’s been weighing on you
Delegate one task
Say no and don’t explain
Schedule that therapy session you’ve been putting off
You don’t have to wait until Friday to choose yourself. Start now.
Final Thought:
You are not here to be consumed.
You are not here to perform strength 24/7.
You are here to live, to breathe, and to be fully human.
This Wellness Wednesday, we invite you to do one thing just for you and know that it is enough.
If you need support creating space for yourself and navigating life’s demands with more balance, our therapists are here to help.
